Upcoming ProjectsIn 2008, I will be working with seniors who are at the early stages of progressive memory loss to create a series of artists books. Each book will be a work of art, a keepsake, and a recorded moment in time. Together, they will comprise a series that documents the urgency of communication and preservation of self in the face of increasing cognitive dysfunction, a testimonial to lives lived on the precipice of identity loss. In addition, I will create two folding screens that incorporate pages from the books; the screens will both serve as a metaphor for memory loss and make the books accessible to larger audiences. My StudioI am located in Portland, Oregon, and my studio is open for visits by apppointment, on Sundays and Mondays. I had started taking classes in b&w photography in 1989, at Pacific Northwest College of Art and Oregon School of Arts & Crafts (now Oregon College of Art & Craft), then continued on to drawing, printmaking, and bookarts classes as well. In 1996, I showed a collection of drawings and mixed media works at the Centrum Gallery at OSAC. At that point, it was clear that I would eventually switch. From the stark and monochromatic pieces of my first show to the more recent chaotic and colorful images, my work has continued to evolve. My long time interests in Asian and Islamic arts are also starting to appear in my more recent pieces. To view a selection of past and recent works online, see Portfolio.
